How exactly do the clinics work?

Social agencies provide the room for the clinic. Normally, there is a 2-hour session per week with approximately 4 clients attending, half an hour each. The social agencies also perform the following functions:

Sorting clients into criminal, family and civil categories

Screening out those eligible for Legal Aid or able to afford a lawyer
(There are income guidelines for our services - please see our client page for details.)

Making client appointments at the clinic for lawyers in the appropriate field

Sending each lawyer a client list before the clinic showing the opposing parties so that the lawyer can check his/her conflict list

Each clinic of the Society has:

An appointment coordinator:
The appointment coordinator arranges the appointments with clients. Most agencies have the resources to provide an appointment coordinator (though we may be able provide a volunteer to assist if necessary).

A team of approximately five or more lawyers.

Our Clinic Coordinator supervises the set up of the clinic until it is functioning smoothly.
