This September, lawyers will once again provide free legal advice in the streets of Victoria, Kelowna and Vancouver in order to raise awareness and funds for BCs pro bono programs. The free legal advice-a-thon (www.advice-a-thon.ca) will facilitate access to justice for low- and modest-income people, including the homeless, by engaging lawyers in advising pre-scheduled and drop-in clients on all legal issues.

To launch the final leg of the legal advice-a-thon in Vancouver, Access Pro Bono will host the 3rd annual Ride for Justice group bicycle ride on the morning of Friday September 10, 2010. Ride for Justice was inspired by Dugald Christie, who founded the Western Canada Society to Access Justice, and who tirelessly advocated for reforms to BCs justice system. Dugald paired his quest to make the legal system accessible to everyone with his love of cycling, as he ventured on cross-Canada rides to raise awareness about justice issues.

"The image of a lawyer in robes on a bicycle heading to a courthouse says a great deal about how Access Pro Bono wants to keep the courts and the justice system firmly within the reach of ordinary Canadians," says Access Pro Bono Director Phil Dougan.
